Midjourney is a potent tool for producing amazing visual material in the dynamic realm of AI-driven creativity. The Seed Parameter is a fundamental component of this creative platform that opens the door to creating inventive and consistent AI-generated graphics.

We will explore the complex art of using seeds in Midjourney in this extensive step-by-step guide, providing you with the skills and expertise to properly utilize its potential. This guide provides you with the necessary tools to set off on a unique creative journey, from comprehending the significance of seed values to discovering hidden mysteries within your creative creations.

What is a Seed Parameter in Midjourney?

In Midjourney, a seed parameter is an integer that modifies the process of generating random images. Depending on your text prompts, you can utilize the seed option to generate images that are standardized or varied.

The format for the seed parameter, which is an integer between 0 and 4294967295, is --seed, and it is added to the end of your prompt. For instance, --seed 123456 describes a sunset over the water.

To generate images, the seed parameter first generates a field of visual noise, like static from a television. While different seed numbers or prompts will result in distinct photos, the same seed number and prompt will yield similar images.

Additionally, you can make several images with different seed numbers and the same prompt by using the --repeat parameter.

How to Use Seeds in Midjourney

To use seed values appropriately in Midjourney, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Select an Image

Select an image that you have created before to generate a seed number from it.

Step 2: Add Reaction

Right-click on the image and select 'Add Reaction'. Hover on the Add reaction, and a series of other options will appear.

Now Choose the 'Other Reactions' option.

When you click on 'Other Reactions', a dialog box with emojis will pop up. A search bar is found in the dialog box where the emojis appear.

Type 'env' or 'envelope' in full and select the envelope (✉️) emoji to get a new seed generated.

Step 3: Select New Seed Number

Scroll down to the end and you will find a new seed number you can use.

The way to use this seed is to type the same prompt with all of the same arguments, and at the end, add the new seed number.

In our case, we will use our generated seed and add, which is; --seed 13685 at the end of the prompt in the series of the arguments.

Note: There will be a slight difference in the output when ever we generate a seed from an existing AI image we created.
The difference between adding this newly generated seed and retyping the prompt is that; the result or outcome will be totally different when we retype the seed as oppose to when we generate and use a new seed.

Comparing Outputs

Let's compare 2 outputs when we rewrote the same prompt using the same seed, and when we used the newly generated seed.

Using the same seed: 👇

You can see that the output is different as we rewrote the same prompt using the same seed.

Using different seeds: 👇

In this second output a different seed was generated and used, you will notice that the results are closely similar compared to the other.
